The Times-Picayune Newspaper is calling for Mike Brown head of FEMA to be fired in this editorial.
One might say that the behavior of this government (during the non-existent or delinquent Federal effort to help the people of New Orleans) since it was given the presidency in 2000 by the recently ended Renquist Supreme Court was entirely predictable; almost as predictable as the Levees failing during a category 5 hurricane.
The Times-Picayune newspaper should remember that they endorsed this person for the President in 2000; and if even a small state like Louisiana had voted for Gore; one can rightly assume that President Gore would have personally participated in rescuing the poor people of New Orleans after the flood. Of course, one could also think that money would have been spent properly and the Levees of New Orleans might have been re-enforced and there might not have even been a flood. But that is wishful thinking.
Also, remember that Senator Kerry fished people out of the water in Vietnam while George had better things to do (or was that Cheney). I guess George had better things to do in August than read. It must not have been on his schedule to read the paper until a few days after the hurricane so you cannot fault him for not knowing.
The Times-Picayune newspaper had second thoughts in 2004 but still failed to endorse Senator Kerry as they did not endorse either candidate for the Presidency. (I guess they were in favor of no President. It seems that at least for right now; it is as if there is no one in charge...).
I feel horrible about this flood; however, Illinois voted for the responsible person to be President of the United States. Instead; we are stuck with people like Mike Brown as head of FEMA as opposed to responsible people like James Lee Witt.
I hope that people like Sen Mary Landrieu who did not think that filabustering irresponsible Bush nominees is really worth it (one of the "moderate 7 or the centrist 14); might think twice before John Roberts is approved by the Senate; and at least ask him if it is the federal government's responsbility to build levees and protect cities from flooding.
